GENERAL INFORMATION
If you umpired in 2019 you WILL NOT need to complete the application form for the 2020 season. Please email [email protected] indicating your intent to umpire in 2020. You will also need to log back into Assignr, update any account information such as address and phone numbers. Please also begin to populate your availability in the Assignr system. If your Assignr account is not active you may need to complete another application.

If this is your FIRST YEAR umping with BGRA you will need to download and complete this Application. Once completed please bring with to the Umpire Training sessions OR email the completed application to [email protected]

If you are 13 or will turn 13 years old by August 1st, 2020, you are eligible to umpire in the BGRA. All Non-Patched Umpires

will be required to attend training sessions that are posted on this page. If this is your first year as an umpire you will likely be umping the FARM division.

PLEASE email application as soon as possible so we can register you with an online account for scheduling.

All applications must have a valid Social Security Number for tax purposes and a valid work permit if the umpire is 15 or younger. If all the information is not included on the application and work permit is not included it will be rejected.

Umpire training
Umpires are required to attend at least one of the training dates.  It is highly recommended that both training dates be attended especially for first year umpires.

Umpire Training will be held on the following dates and times.

April 4th; Morning - Exact time TBD
April 18th: Afternoon - Exact time TBD

Please print this LETTER  and bring it to your schools office, who will then issue your work permit.  Bring your work permit and  APPLICATION FORM with you to the clinic. Applications and work permits can also be scanned and emailed to [email protected]

Umpires 17 years of age that are officially "patched" are not required to attend training.

*BGRA will require all Umpires 18 years and older to be patched with their own uniforms and equipment.  To become a licensed official go to the IHSA website at http://www.ihsa.org/Officials/HowtoBecomeaLicensedOfficial.aspx.  You will be required to pass an exam each year, watch the required video, and attend a clinic every 3 years (it is strongly encouraged you attend the clinic every year).  The annual fee for the first sport is $45, and $15 for each additional sport.  Candidates must be at least 17 years old.  You must be patched with all requirements prior to the start of the 2019 BGRA season. (Disclosure: Please note that becoming a Patched Umpire is not a guarantee of hire.)
